October is Energy Awareness Month

10/26/2012

October is Energy Awareness Month. With the month coming to an end, Summit Natural Gas would like to share some ways that you can become more energy efficient when it comes to natural gas.

According to the Missouri Public Service Commission, the average household spends close to $2,000 a year on utility bills. There are several ways that natural gas can help you to save money and reduce your bills while becoming more energy efficient.

Warm water at your fingertips.

Natural gas water heaters heat water more quickly and effectively than electric water heaters. A gas water heater can heat your water twice as fast, making the turn around time much shorter. You’ll love the convenience of a gas water heater during the holidays when you have family in town. Another option is a natural gas tankless water heater. Traditional water heaters continuously heat your water, even when you don’t need it. With a tankless water heater, your water is only heated when you need it.

Heating the natural way.

The weather in Missouri can change when you least expect it to. When the chilly air hits, you want to be prepared to keep your home or business warm. High-efficiency Natural Gas heating systems will do just that. You’ll be warm and draft free, even on the coldest days. When heating with Natural Gas, you can actually feel the warm air because of the steady flow of heat. This allows you to heat your home faster while using less energy. Natural Gas furnaces have a greater efficiency, lower operating costs and longer furnace life — that’s where the savings really start to add up.

It’s easy to cook like a pro with Natural Gas.

The kitchen is often the centerpiece of a home. It’s where families and friends gather to share stories and meals, so it’s important to have appliances you can trust. That’s why you wouldn’t dream of a kitchen without Natural Gas. Chefs all over the world rave about the benefits of cooking with Natural Gas. The even heat, temperature control and always being able to cook, even during a power outage is only available with Natural Gas.  Natural Gas ranges, ovens, cook tops and grills allow you to save energy and money because of their efficiency. With the power to be turned on or off instantly, you’re spending half of what you would with an electric appliance.

Make laundry less of a pain.

Laundry can be dreadful. Clothes take forever to dry while wet clothes sit in your washer. After multiple drying cycles you think you’re done, but they still end up damp! With a Natural Gas dryer, there’s no hassle of multiple cycles or damp clothes. You’ll have nice, dry, clean clothes ready to be put away. Natural gas dryers move warm air through your clothes helping them to dry faster. On average you can dry two loads of clothes in a Natural Gas dryer for the same cost of drying one load in an electric dryer. Spend less time doing laundry and more time enjoying the benefits of natural gas.

Cozy up to a fire.

When you want to sit around the fireplace with the family or add warmth and ambiance to a room, a Natural Gas fireplace is your best option. With just the control of a switch, you’ll feel the warmth a clean burning Natural Gas fireplace can bring. Natural Gas fireplaces can easily be installed in nearly any room. With a variety of style options and vented of ventless options, you can find one to fit anywhere in your home.
